NASA First Nations Launch - Booth: 1437

The Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium First Nations Launch Competition offers Tribal College and Universities (TCU), Native American-Serving Nontribal Institution (NASNTI), as well as active American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) collegiate chapters the opportunity to demonstrate engineering and design skills through direct application in high-power rockets. FNL is a 'First Step' experience designed for students with no prior experience working with high-power rockets. Rocket motors and dimensions are restricted by competition parameters so that the knowledge, creativity, and imagination of the students are challenged. The end result is a great aerospace learning experience unique to the Native American community.

The NIDDK supports research on many important diseases that disproportionately impacts the health of minority populations in the U.S. These include diabetes, obesity, nutrition-related disorders, hepatitis C, gallbladder disease, H. Pylori infection, sickle cell disease, kidney disease, and complications from infection with HIV. The Institute also emphasizes support for under-represented minority scientists interested in biomedical research.
NIDDK offers opportunities for training scientists and students, both on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland and Phoenix, AZ and by providing financial support to individuals at universities and medical schools throughout the U.S. In exhibiting at the AISES Conference, it is our objective to provide information on NIDDK research training and career development opportunities and to encourage members of underrepresented racial and ethnic minority groups in
choosing a biomedical research career in the field of diabetes, endocrinology, metabolism, digestive diseases, nutrition, kidney, urologic, and hematologic diseases.

The National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) is an active and visible component of the Smithsonian Institution, the world's largest museum complex.
NMAI operates three facilities: the museum in Washington, D.C.; the George Gustav Heye Center in New York City; and the Cultural Resources Center in Suitland, Maryland, houses the museum's collections as well as the conservation, repatriation, and digital imaging programs, and research facilities. The National Native Scholarship Providers ((NNSPs)- consisting of the Cobell Scholarship Program, American Indian College Fund, American Indian Science and Engineering Society, and Native Forward Scholars Fund) work collaboratively to amplify the voices and experiences of Indigenous students in higher education. This important collaboration results in Indigenous-centric data sharing, collection, analysis, and reporting - the first cross-organizational partnership of its kind. Our collective goal is to conduct collaborative research on topics that support Indigenous student success and inform effective practice as scholarship providers. As a result of our collaboration, we are emerging as a powerful partner within higher education data collection and research. In doing so, we challenge U.S. higher education's history of maltreatment and invisibility of Indigenous college student data and seek accountability for data inclusion at the campus and national levels.
